Add Dal, tomatoes, green chillies, turmeric powder, salt and add 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and cook for 3 whistles. keep aside.
Place a pan over medium flame and add oil in it. Add onions cumin seeds, curry leaves, mustard seeds, and asafoetida and fry them for 2-3 minutes.
Add dal mixture, stir well and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add ground Coconut and cook on a medium flame for 3 to 5 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
Check for seasoning. Add more salt if necessary, Add coriander leaves and mix well.
